Mildred boys basketball is entering a new era following the departure of coach Lance Key.
Key is stepping away from coaching after a successful five-year run to spend more time with his family, according to athletics director Jeff Callahan. During his tenure, Key guided Mildred to district championships in 2025 and 2026 and led the Eagles to opening-round playoff victories in both seasons.
Mildred finished the 2025-26 season with a 24-4 record and a perfect 12-0 mark to win the District 18-2A championship.
To replace Key, Callahan promoted assistant coach Jason Bottoms to the head coaching position. Bottoms has been a longtime member of the Mildred basketball program and will take on his first head coaching assignment.
