It’s time for the bye this week for the Eagles. It’s a chance for head coach Jeff Callahan and his staff to evaluate where everything is in all three phases. It’s also an opportunity for minor injuries to heal.

The Eagles are 3-2 through the non-district season. They fell to Axtell 38-13 at home last Friday.

This game was pretty close until the Longhorns pulled away in the fourth quarter. Plus, Callahan is saving his running back Trenton Harris for the playoff chase. Harris finished with only 53 yards on 10 carries.

Once this bye ends, the District 11-3A season begins Oct. 9. Mildred will travel to Elkhart.

Lady Eagles volleyball moves into the second half of the District 17-3A season this week. The Lady Eagles were 19-16 overall and 4-2 in district play to start the week.

They were in a three-way tie for third place with Elkhart and Palestine Westwood. Mildred split with those two.

The first half concluded Tuesday against Groesbeck. Friday, Mildred is home against district leader Fairfield.

Mildred cross country runs Thursday in Eustace.
