Mildred basketball’s season came to an end Friday in the Class 2A Division I Region III area round, as the Eagles fell 50-40 to Lovelady Lions.

Despite the loss, Mildred completed another standout campaign. The Eagles captured their second consecutive district title, the program’s first back-to-back championships since winning three straight in the mid-1960s. Mildred also secured a playoff victory for the second year in a row, defeating Bruceville-Eddy 80-53 in the bi-district round. The Eagles close the season at 24-4.

Lady Eagles softball opened District 20-2A play this week with a home-and-home series against Kerens High School. Mildred hosted Tuesday’s matchup and travels to Kerens on Friday. The Lady Eagles navigated a challenging non-district schedule and enter district play at 3-9-2, with the championship race appearing wide open.

Mildred baseball is off to a 6-1 start through the first two weeks of the season. The Eagles will compete in the Dawson tournament Thursday through Saturday.
