FORT WORTH, Texas — Mineral Wells rallied from 16 points down with less than four minutes to play Thursday and edged Eastern Hills 36-33 in overtime at Handley Field.
Rueben Velasquez hit a 40-yard field goal in overtime to complete the comeback.
Javon Johnson, a running back pressed into duty at quarterback, threw touchdown passes of 65 and 5 yards in the fourth quarter. He passed for 175 yards and three scores and rushed for 144 yards.
The Rams improved to 2-1 and host Quinlan Ford at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ram Stadium. The Panthers are 3-0 and have scored 49 points in each of their first three games.
In other Mineral Wells sports, Lady Rams volleyball returns to action Friday at Lindsay. Both the boys and girls cross country teams placed fourth last week at Haltom and will compete Friday at Benbrook.
