MINERAL WELLS, Texas — The Rams put together a balanced offensive attack Friday at Iowa Park but came up short in a 33-20 loss to the Hawks.
Mineral Wells struck first with an opening touchdown before falling into a 19-6 deficit. The Rams closed the gap to 19-13 but could get no closer. Javon Jackson and Jordan Hicks provided a strong 1-2 punch in the backfield, each rushing for about 90 yards and scoring a touchdown.
The loss dropped Mineral Wells to 1-1. The Rams will return to action Thursday in east Fort Worth against Eastern Hills. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Handley Field. The Highlanders also enter at 1-1.
The Rams’ cross country program swept its home invitational, with both the boys and girls teams capturing titles. Each squad placed its top five runners in the top 10 overall. Mineral Wells will next compete Thursday at the Haltom meet.
In volleyball, the Lady Rams begin the week 10-12. They will host Pantego Christian on Tuesday before traveling Friday to face Azle.
