Finishing with a flourish, Lady Rams softball won its last four games to not only advance to the postseason, but also earn the top Division I playoff seed.
In the final week, Mineral Wells beat Stephenville, 5-0, and Graham, 5-1, to finish the regular season at 22-8 overall and 6-4 in District 6-4A.
The Lady Rams open the playoffs Thursday in a single-game format against 10-14 Wolfforth Frenship Memorial. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Abilene Christian University.
Mineral Wells baseball controls its playoff destiny. The Rams only need to split with last-place Brownwood in this final week to clinch a playoff berth.
Tuesday’s series opener is at Brownwood, with Friday’s game at Mineral Wells. The Rams enter the week 14-10-2 overall and 3-5 in District 6-4A. They were swept by district leader Brock last week, 3-1 and 9-3.
At the area track meet this past Friday in Abilene, Mineral Wells’ Javawn McKinney won the discus to qualify for regionals. Christian Peel qualified in the 400 meters, Josiah Zapata in the shot put and Mia Chavira in the girls discus.
