The Mineral Wells Lady Rams softball team is moving on to the area round of the Class 4A Division I Region I playoffs after a dominant opening-round win.
Last Thursday, Mineral Wells defeated Wolfforth Frenship Memorial, 23-8, in a one-game playoff played at Abilene Christian University. The Lady Rams improved to 23-8 and will face Decatur in a best-of-three series at Weatherford College. Game 1 is set for 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Game 2 is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Friday, with a potential deciding Game 3 to follow.
Mineral Wells baseball also begins postseason play against Frenship Memorial in the Class 4A Division I Region I playoffs. The best-of-three series will be played at Abilene Christian University, with Game 1 on Friday at 7:00 p.m., Game 2 Saturday at noon, and a possible deciding Game 3 to follow. The Rams enter the playoffs with a 16-11-2 record after finishing District 6-4A at 5-5. Mineral Wells closed the regular season with a sweep of Brownwood, winning 10-0 and 10-3, and also fell to Wichita Falls Memorial, 2-0, during the week.
The Class 4A Region I track meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Lubbock. Mineral Wells qualifiers include Javawn McKinney in the discus, Christian Peel in the 400 meters, Josiah Zapata in the shot put, and Mia Chavira in the girls discus.
