Mineral Wells softball continues its postseason run in the Class 4A Division I playoffs.
Last week, the Lady Rams swept Decatur in the area round, winning 5-2 and 12-2 to advance to the Region I semifinals. Mineral Wells, now 25-8, will face Dumas in a best-of-three series next week at Wolfforth Frenship Memorial. Game 1 is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, followed by Game 2 at 4 p.m. Friday. A third game, if necessary, will follow Game 2. Dumas enters the series with a 31-2 record.
Mineral Wells baseball also advanced in the Class 4A Division I Region I playoffs after sweeping Wolfforth Frenship Memorial in a series played at Abilene Christian University. The Rams won the opener 14-5 on Wednesday after the schedule was adjusted because of the late-week weather forecast. Mineral Wells completed the sweep Saturday with a 6-4 victory to improve to 18-12-2.
The Rams will now face Decatur in the area round. The best-of-three series will be played at Weatherford High School, with Game 1 set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Game 2 at 6:30 p.m. Friday and a potential Game 3 scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday.
At the Class 4A Region I track and field meet in Lubbock, Josiah Zapata placed sixth in the shot put, while Mia Chavira finished seventh in the discus.
