Mineral Wells baseball is making history for the second consecutive season.
The Rams have advanced to the Class 4A Division I Region I championship after sweeping Hereford in the regional semifinals this past weekend in Clyde. Mineral Wells powered its way through the series with 19-11 and 14-4 victories.
The Rams have now swept all three playoff opponents this postseason and carry a perfect 6-0 playoff record. Mineral Wells previously eliminated Wolfforth Frenship Memorial and Decatur before defeating Hereford. Last season’s playoff run marked the program’s deepest postseason appearance since 1958, and this year’s team has now matched that achievement.
Mineral Wells will face Amarillo West Plains in the regional final for a berth in the state semifinals. The best-of-three series will be played at Lubbock Cooper High School. Game 1 is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, with Game 2 set for 1 p.m. Saturday. A third game, if necessary, would follow.
West Plains advanced after sweeping Springtown in the regional semifinals. Mineral Wells enters the series with a 22-12-1 record, while West Plains is 28-7.
