No. 2 Paradise (4-1) moved up a spot in the Class 3A Division I state rankings after a hard-fought 29-22 win at Vernon last Friday. Tied at 22 late in the fourth quarter, Paradise’s defense forced a turnover at its 38-yard line. A chunk pass to Layne Smith set up first and goal, and Luke Brown scored the game-winning touchdown on a 2-yard run with 41 seconds remaining.
The Panthers host Bowie (3-2) in their district home opener Friday. Bowie lost 27-0 to Peaster last week. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
Lady Panthers volleyball entered the week 22-10 overall and 3-2 in District 10-3A. Paradise played Valley View on Tuesday and travels to Callisburg on Friday. The team split last week with a win over Whitesboro and a loss to Boyd.
Paradise cross country runners Allie McCormick and Taryn Stultz both finished in the top 10 at the Decatur Reunion Run last week.
