Paradise basketball continues to roll on both the boys’ and girls’ sides as the Panthers wrap up tournament play this week and prepare for the heart of the district schedule.

The No. 2-ranked Paradise boys basketball team is concluding action in the Championship Tournament at Eagle Mountain High School. The event began Monday and runs through Wednesday. The Panthers entered the tournament with a sparkling 16-1 record and have been one of the most efficient teams in the region, averaging more than 57 points per game.

Paradise stayed sharp heading into the tournament with a hard-fought 42-40 victory over Wichita Falls Legacy last week, showing it can win close, low-scoring games in addition to its usual high-octane outings. With non-district play winding down, the Panthers now turn their attention to the start of District 10-3A competition, which begins next week.

On the girls’ side, the sixth-ranked Lady Panthers are finishing up play at the Tournament of Champions in Saginaw. Paradise brought a 17-2 record into the event and has continued to look like one of the top teams in Class 3A.

Before the holiday break, the Lady Panthers opened District 10-3A play in dominant fashion with back-to-back blowout wins. Paradise routed Whitesboro 87-22 and followed that performance with an 84-37 victory over Valley View. Through the early part of the season, the Lady Panthers have been especially impressive offensively, averaging better than 64 points per game while applying consistent pressure on defense.

With tournament play wrapping up, district action resumes next week for the Lady Panthers, who will look to maintain their fast start in league play and continue positioning themselves as a postseason contender.

In other Paradise athletics news, the powerlifting season is set to begin later this month, adding another competitive outlet for student-athletes as winter sports move fully into focus.

As January approaches, Paradise teams across the board appear poised for strong district runs, with both basketball programs carrying momentum into the next phase of their seasons.
