No. 8-ranked Springtown benefited from some smart scheduling last week, moving its game against Western Hills to Thursday night at Clark Field in South Fort Worth to avoid the threat of bad weather.
The Pines entered the matchup 8-0 overall and 4-0 in District 5-4A, having already clinched a playoff berth. Western Hills came in 2-4 and 1-2.
Last Friday, Springtown made quick work of Diamond Hill-Jarvis, racing to a 35-0 first-quarter lead and cruising to a 59-0 win. The victory marked the team’s third shutout of the season, as the Pines’ defense continues to dominate, allowing just eight points per game.
On the volleyball court, the Lady Pines could be headed for a third matchup with Decatur on Monday to determine playoff seeding. Springtown wraps up the regular season Friday at home against Lake Worth after defeating Bridgeport on Tuesday.
The Lady Pines enter the week 38-9 overall and 10-3 in District 7-4A, ranked No. 18 in the latest Class 4A state poll. A win Friday, paired with a Decatur loss to Eagle Mountain, would create a tie for second place in district play. The two teams split their regular-season meetings.
In cross country, Springtown’s Madelyn Walker qualified for the state meet after finishing 14th at the Class 4A Region I meet earlier this week at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. Walker posted a personal-best time, while the girls team finished seventh overall.
