No. 8 Springtown will play for the District 5-4A championship Friday night when it hosts Decatur at Porcupine Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The Porcupines enter the matchup 9-0 overall and 5-0 in district play, while the Eagles sit at 5-2 and 4-0. This will be Springtown’s final regular-season game before its bye next week, with the playoffs beginning the week of Nov. 10.

Both teams feature standout quarterbacks leading explosive offenses. Springtown junior Kaine Hill has thrown for more than 1,800 yards and 26 touchdowns this season, while Decatur sophomore Rhys Ragan has passed for over 1,400 yards with 24 touchdown throws and no interceptions.

In volleyball, the Lady Pines opened the Class 4A Division I Region I playoffs Thursday night against Eastern Hills at Lake Worth, where they were heavy favorites to advance. Springtown entered the postseason with a school-record 40 wins (40-9 overall) after sweeping Decatur on Monday to earn the No. 2 seed from District 7-4A. Both teams finished district play 11-3.

In cross country, Springtown sophomore Madelyn Walker will compete Saturday at the UIL Class 4A state meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
