Another week brings another marquee matchup for No. 7 Springtown, as the undefeated Pines prepare for a Top 10 showdown this afternoon in the Class 4A Division I Region II semifinals. Springtown (12-0) meets No. 6 Alvarado (11-0) at 3 p.m. at Eagle Mountain High School in what promises to be one of the most explosive playoff games in Texas today.

This marks the fifth time in seven seasons that Springtown has reached at least the regional semifinal round. Last week, the Pines survived their first Top 10 test with a 49-41 win over Frisco Panther Creek. Springtown built a 42-21 cushion early in the fourth quarter before holding off a late surge. Junior quarterback Kaine Hill passed for 248 yards and two touchdowns, while Christian Mendoza posted 144 receiving yards. Springtown’s ground game was dominant as well, rolling up 349 rushing yards as the offense finished just shy of 600 total.

Alvarado enters with similar firepower. The Indians outraced Sulphur Springs 51-43 in their area-round win and are averaging an eye-popping 60 points per game. With two high-powered offenses and unbeaten records on the line, today’s semifinal is shaping up to be a must-watch playoff thriller.
