The Springtown girls basketball team opened District 7-4A play Tuesday with a strong showing against Krum before falling in a close 44-40 decision. The loss dropped the Lady Pines to 8-7 on the season.

Springtown continues district action Friday on the road at Burkburnett, with hopes of building momentum before the Christmas break. Following Friday’s game, the Lady Pines will be off until holiday tournament play begins Dec. 29.

On the boys side, Springtown wrapped up its pre-Christmas schedule Tuesday with a competitive 52-47 loss to Waxahachie Life. The Pines had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds but came up short. Springtown enters the break on a seven-game losing streak and sits at 3-10 for the season.

In football recruiting news, a Springtown wide receiver from the Class of 2026 is drawing attention at the next level. Christian Mendoza is fielding multiple Division II and FCS offers, with the latest coming from Eastern New Mexico, which recently named a new head coach. Mendoza is coming off a 1,000-yard receiving season.
