Springtown’s remarkable 2025 football season came to a sudden halt on Black Friday as the No. 7-ranked Pojo fell to No. 6 Alvarado, 64-13, in the Class 4A Division I Region II semifinals. The loss ends the Pines’ season at 12-1 and snaps one of the program’s best-ever postseason pushes.
What opened as a competitive battle quickly unraveled. After a 7-7 first quarter, Alvarado exploded for 30 points in the second period and carried a 37-13 lead into halftime. Springtown was unable to recover as the Indians continued to roll in the second half.
Offensively, the Pines struggled to find rhythm. Junior quarterback Kaine Hill was under heavy pressure throughout the game and was sacked 10 times. Springtown finished with 235 total yards, never able to match the pace of Alvarado’s relentless attack. Despite the difficult finish, the Pines still capped a tremendous 12-win season and reached the regional semifinals for the fifth time in seven years. A full wrap of the 2025 campaign is ahead next week.
In other Springtown athletics, Lady Pines basketball entered the Sanger Tournament at 7-3. Tournament play began Thursday and runs through Saturday. The Lady Pines dropped a close one Tuesday to Saginaw, 40-37.
Pojo boys basketball began tournament action this week in Brock. The Pines entered at 2-2 after splitting last week’s game, falling to Paradise and defeating Holliday.
