Springtown baseball advanced through the first round of the Class 4A Division I playoffs in dominant fashion.

The Porcupines completed a two-game sweep of Fort Worth Carter-Riverside in the Region I opening round, winning 26-0 on Wednesday and 11-0 on Thursday. Springtown improved to 21-7-1 and will face the winner of the Stephenville-Lubbock Estacado series in next week’s area round.

Springtown softball is looking to close out its Class 4A Division I area playoff series against Big Spring. Game 2 is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday at Abilene Cooper. The Lady Porcupines won the opener 3-1 on Wednesday and enter the game with a 23-10 record. With a win, Springtown would advance to the Region I semifinals next week to face either El Paso Ysleta or Amarillo West Plains. The Lady Porcupines opened the playoffs with a 16-4 win over Southwest.

In golf, Springtown’s Dixie Crain will compete in the Class 4A state girls tournament Monday and Tuesday in Austin.

Springtown will also be well represented at the Class 4A Region I track and field meet, scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Lubbock.
