Springtown baseball’s season came to an end last week after a highly competitive Class 4A Division I Region I semifinal series against Amarillo West Plains.
The Porcupines were swept by the Wolves, falling 5-4 and 12-10 in games played Thursday and Friday at Midland Greenwood.
Defense proved to be the deciding factor in the series. Springtown committed 10 errors over the two games, and the miscues were costly. In Game 1, only three of Amarillo West Plains’ five runs were earned. In Game 2, just four of the Wolves’ 12 runs were earned.
Despite the disappointing finish, the Porcupines completed another strong season. Springtown shared the District 7-4A championship and finished the 2026 campaign with a 23-10-2 record.
The program will now move forward without all-district catcher Layton Murrell, who signed with Navarro College in Corsicana, and right-handed pitcher Kaden Howard, who signed with Western Oklahoma State College.
