WEATHERFORD – The Weatherford Kangaroos (1-4, 0-2) dropped their District 3-6A home opener against Mansfield Legacy (3-3, 1-1), 52-49.

The Roos erupted for 21 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Broncos scored the game-winning touchdown in the final minutes.

Quarterback Kutter Kennedy has thrown for more than 1,000 yards this season, while running back DJ Quimby is on pace to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark. The Roos have a bye this week and return to action Oct. 17.

The Lady Roos volleyball team (20-12, 5-2) is tied for second place in District 3-6A. They host Saginaw Boswell on Tuesday and face No. 2 Mansfield Field on Friday.

Weatherford cross country competes in the District 3-6A meet Friday in Burleson.
