Weatherford – The Weatherford Kangaroos return from their bye week with a tough home matchup Friday at Kangaroo Stadium against defending Class 6A Division I state champion North Crowley. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Roos are 1-5 overall and 0-2 in District 3-6A, while the Panthers are 5-1 and 2-0. Junior quarterback Cutter Kennedy has thrown for more than 1,300 yards and nine touchdowns through six games, and junior running back DJ Quimby is nearing the 1,000-yard mark with 800 yards so far.
In volleyball, the Lady Roos are close to clinching a playoff berth. They are 21-12 overall and 6-2 in District 3-6A play, sitting in second place. Weatherford visits No. 2 Mansfield on Tuesday before hosting North Crowley on Friday.
At last week’s District 3-6A cross country meet in Burleson, the Weatherford girls won the team title. Junior Remington Boone was the individual champion, and Aiden Breaux finished in the top 10 for the boys. Both teams advance to the Region I meet.
