The Roos officially closed the book on a difficult 2025 football season, finishing 1-9 overall and 0-6 in District 3-6A under head coach Aubrey Sims. While the record reflects the challenges of a year defined largely by defensive struggles, Weatherford allowed nearly 50 points per game, the foundation for a turnaround may already be in place.

Offensively, the Roos return several key playmakers in 2026. Quarterback Kutter Kennedy, who threw for roughly 2,000 yards this fall, will lead the unit as a senior. He’ll be joined by standout running back DJ Quimby, who surpassed 1,500 rushing yards, and rising senior receiver Jakob Hemphill, who approached the 1,000-yard mark. That trio gives Sims a strong nucleus to build around as the team works to overhaul its defense heading into the offseason.

On the court, Weatherford girls basketball is off to a strong start at 5-1. The Lady Roos took third place in their division at the Mavs Classic in Frisco, defeating Sherman 56-43 to close the event. They travel to Keller Central on Tuesday.

The Roos boys basketball team opened its season on a high note as well, topping Prosper Rock Hill 68-50 last Friday.
