Weatherford has its new leader for the football program.

Last Thursday, the Weatherford ISD school board approved the hiring of Lucas Lovejoy offensive coordinator Marshall Williams as the new head coach.

Williams served under legendary coach Todd Dodge while calling the Lovejoy offense. He was previously the head coach at Keller Timber Creek from 2020-23. While his record was 18-25, Williams led Timber Creek to three playoff appearances. He will begin immediately.

Starting this fall, Weatherford will move into a Class 6A district that includes Aledo, Granbury and the five Arlington schools.

Lady Roos softball opens the playoffs in the Class 6A Region I Division II bracket this week against Trophy Club Byron Nelson in a best-of-three series. All games will be played at Saginaw Chisholm Trail.

Game 1 is Friday at 6 p.m., followed by Game 2 Saturday at noon. A possible deciding third game would follow.

Weatherford is 13-15 overall. District 4-6A champion Byron Nelson is 30-3.

Roos baseball must likely sweep its series with Mansfield in the final week of the season to reach the playoffs. Weatherford is 18-11 overall and 5-4 in District 3-6A, currently sitting in fifth place.
