Weatherford High School is facing a major leadership change in its athletics program.
Aubrey Sims, the head football coach and Athletics Director, resigned this past Thursday to take a similar position at Class 4A Alvarado High School. Sims spent five seasons at Weatherford, arriving in 2021. During his tenure, the Roos went 22-29 overall, made the playoffs in his first season, and were playoff contenders in each of the following three. Prior to Weatherford, Sims led Iowa Park High School to the playoffs in all seven of his seasons from 2014–2020.
Weatherford will begin the search for a replacement immediately. The new head coach will inherit a District 3-6A schedule featuring strong programs like Aledo High School, Granbury High School, and the five Arlington ISD schools following upcoming realignment.
On the soccer side, No. 14 Lady Roos are continuing their strong campaign. They have already clinched a playoff berth and hold second place in District 3-6A with a 16-2-2 overall record and 8-2-1 in district play. The Lady Roos wrap up their regular season Tuesday at Mansfield High School.
